Supporting Japan

Whenever in need

From the 1995 Hanshin Earthquake to the 2024 Noto Peninsula Earthquake, including the 2010 Japan Airlines crisis, the 2011 Tōhoku Earthquake and Fukushima disaster, the 2016 Kumamoto Earthquake, and the 2018 Western Japan Floods, Kamei Royale has consistently supported Japan through financial aid and other contributions.

Kamei Sake was born out of a mission to support Fukushima after the devastating 2011 nuclear disaster. The aftermath of the incident led to widespread misinformation, causing many local businesses in Fukushima to suffer or shut down entirely. Upon hearing this, Shingo Masuda, son of the Kamei Group’s owner, did what we have always done—mobilize support. We quickly raised funds to aid the people of Fukushima.

Who we are

When

One day, a representative from Jizake Japan Cooperative, the leading Japanese Sake Association in Canada, visited us alongside Mr. Sato, the esteemed owner of Yamatogawa Sake Brewery in Fukushima, Japan. Their purpose was clear: to fight the false narrative that all of Fukushima was contaminated and that nothing from the region was safe to consume.

Today, we know this was entirely untrue. In fact, the water used to cool the nuclear plants is so thoroughly filtered that it is cleaner than most drinking water outside of Japan. However, at the time, misinformation spread rapidly, unfairly tarnishing Fukushima’s reputation and worsening the struggles of those living there.

Kamei Sake

Saving Fukushima

To counter these misconceptions and demonstrate the safety of Fukushima’s products, Kamei Royale proudly partnered with Yamatogawa Brewery to create an exclusive sake, united and distributed by Jizake Japan Cooperative. This collaboration made us the first Japanese restaurant to offer our very own branded sake.

What makes Kamei Sake truly special? Unlike many breweries, Mr. Sato, a master sake brewer, begins the process by cultivating his own rice fields. Using premium rice and pristine water from Fukushima, he crafts a refined Ginjo-class sake—delicate, aromatic, and designed to refresh the palate, enhancing every bite of your meal.

This highest-quality premium Ginjo sake is available exclusively at Kamei Group restaurants. Experience the dedication, craftsmanship, and story behind every sip.
